Aunt Bert's White Cake
Ingredients

- 2 cups white sugar
- 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
- 3 egg yolks
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 cup boiling water
Recipe
- mix together the buttermilk with the baking soda. set aside. cream shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla. beat well.
- add buttermilk and baking soda mixture.
- sift dry ingredients, and add to creamed mixture.
- add boiling water, and mix well.
- pour into a greased and floured 9 x 13 inch pan. bake at 350 degrees f (175 degrees c) for approximately 35 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean.
- let cool. i frost with cream cheese frosting.
