Aunt Bert's White Cake

Ingredients

  • Servings: 1
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup boiling water

Recipe

  • mix together the buttermilk with the baking soda. set aside. cream shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla. beat well.
  • add buttermilk and baking soda mixture.
  • sift dry ingredients, and add to creamed mixture.
  • add boiling water, and mix well.
  • pour into a greased and floured 9 x 13 inch pan. bake at 350 degrees f (175 degrees c) for approximately 35 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean.
  • let cool. i frost with cream cheese frosting.
