Greek Meat Sauce (kima)

Total Time: 55 mins Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 40 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, crushed
  • 2 tablespoons oil or 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 lb ground beef or 1 lb lamb
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped peeled tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • salt and pepper

Recipe

  • 1 fry onion and garlic gently in oil or butter until onion is transparent.
  • 2 increase heat and add ground meat.
  • 3 cook over high heat, stirring frequently, until juices evaporate and meat begins to brown.
  • 4 lower heat, and add remaining ingredients, seasoning to taste.
  • 5 cover and simmer gently for 30 minutes.
  • 6 remove bay leaf and cloves before serving.
