Chicken And Dumplings

Total Time: 50 mins Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 40 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 6
  • 1 whole chicken
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup lard (cold) or 1/2 cup shortening (cold)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup sweet milk
  • yellow food coloring

Recipe

  • 1 mix flour,salt, baking powder and lard in a large bowl.
  • 2 in a smaller bowl beat egg, milk and food coloring well.
  • 3 add to flour mixture and knead until no longer sticky.
  • 4 cut into 3 pieces, roll out and cut these into squares.
  • 5 add to broth.
  • 6 boil one whole chicken in 2 1/2 quarts broth and water.
  • 7 remove chicken and let cool.
  • 8 debone.
  • 9 add chicken to dumplings and continue to boil.
