Danish Groenlangkaal (green-long-cale)

Ingredients

  • Servings: 2
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 tablespoons butter or 2 tablespoons margarine
  • 500 g of frozen chopped up green cabbage (we can buy this at the store, i don't know about in the us)
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream or 1 1/2 cups milk
  • salt, to taste
  • pepper
  • nutmeg

Recipe

  • 1 melt the margarine or butter and whisk in the flour, then add the milk or cream a little at the time. let it cook for a short time while you are whisking til it's thick enough to cover the back of a spoon.
  • 2 then add the cabbage and let it simmer for about 10 minutes. it has to be rather thick and a nice dark-green color (not a sauce with cabbage pieces in it, then it is too thin and you need to make it a bit thicker).
  • 3 add salt, pepper and nutmeg to taste.
