Glytzista Spiced Ring Donuts

Ingredients

- 12 ounces flour
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 6 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 1/2 ounces ground almonds
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- olive oil (for frying)
- 2 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Recipe
- 1 make the syrup by combining the water, sugar and lemon juice;
- 2 cook over low heat for 3 minutes, remove from the heat and set aside.
- 3 combine the flour, 6 tablespoons olive oil, salt and water. work the ingredients together to form a thick and workable dough.
- 4 roll the dough out into fairly thin strips, about 2.5 cm (1") wide and 10 cm (4") long. seal the two ends of each strip together to form a ring.
- 5 fry the doughnuts in plenty of hot oil. once they are golden brown, drain on paper towels.
- 6 dip the doughnuts into the syrup. place on a serving platter and sprinkle with the ground almonds, cinnamon and cloves.
